Quick Start

Before starting

  • Install Lango Add On from the Atlassian Marketplace.

  • If you want to translate content automatically, make sure you have connected Lango with at least one translation provider (admin permission required).

Set the page language

Open the page you want to translate and click on the Translations link under the page title to open the Lango Switcher. You can access the Lango Switcher within any Confluence page or blog post.

To change the language settings or translate the page, you need permission to edit the page.

Set the language for the current page and click on the check button to confirm.

Access the Lango Control Panel

Open the Lango Switcher and select Settings to open the Lango Control Panel.

With the Lango Control Panel, you can manage all translation settings of the page. Let's explore all the options available!

You can add or manage translations only from the original content page.

Translate the page

The automatic translation feature requires connecting with an external provider, like Google Translate or Deepl. To enable this feature, please refer to our administration configuration guide.

When you add a translation, Lango will create a new page and a link between the original content and the translation. Links allow users to easily navigate between available languages and editors to monitor and manage translations.

Select Translate with a provider from the available operations

Select the target language and the provider you want to use for the translation.
If you like, you can customise the title of the page containing the translation. You can also translate the title by clicking on the translate title button.

When you are ready, click on the add button. The translation request will be placed in a queue waiting to be processed. You can check the status of your request in the translation panel.

As soon as the translation is ready, its status will change to current. From that moment, your translation will become active, and you can switch from one language to another using the Language Switcher.

Translation states table

PRIMARY

This status identifies the source page

CURRENT

Your translation is active and up to date

QUEUED

The translation request is awaiting processing

OUTDATED

The translation is active but outdated. This is the typical case when someone changes the original content. Translations become obsolete and need to be updated.

FAILED

An error occurred during the last translation request. In case of persistent issues, please write to our technical support teams.

Set a custom destination (Optional)

By default, translations will be created as a sub-page of the source content. You can change the destination by selecting a space and a parent page for the new translation.

Known Limitations of the translator

  • Lango only translates textual content. Any images, videos or other attachments will be copied to the destination page "as is". If you need to localise them, you can replace attachments by editing the translations, as you would with any other Confluence page.

  • Lango cannot translate third-party macros and will be copied to the destination page "as is". This is a know limitation due to technical and security restrictions made by Atlassian to marketplace apps that we cannot circumvent.

Other operations available on the control panel

The control panel allows you to perform many operations on your translations. Here are some examples and tutorials:

Reset settings

If you're having trouble, try to reset the translation settings by clicking on the reset button. The reset will delete all the page's multilingual settings and links to translations. The procedure will not delete any content.
