Global Translation Configurations

Global Translation Configurations

Translation Configurations offer a streamlined approach to enhance translation operations by establishing global shared settings within Lango.

By implementing these configurations, administrators can predefine most translation options, allowing users to save time and effort during translation tasks, as many settings will already be set by default.

Configurations also help keep ready-to-use translation presets tailored to your needs. For example, you can:

  • Use an AI provider based on LLM when higher translation quality is required, and a Classic provider in other contexts.

  • Configure multiple settings for an AI provider to test or use different models (e.g., Claude Sonnet vs Claude Haiku).

  • Use multiple DeepL configurations, each with a different set of activated glossaries or a more formal/informal tone of voice.

With configurations, you gain extreme flexibility and complete control over the settings that Confluence users can use.

How to create a global configuration

  • Access the Lango Languages & Translator admin page (Confluence admin permission required)

  • Click on the "New configuration" button.

Configuration fields

Configuration fields

Name

Required.

The name of the configuration.

Provider

Required.

The external translation provider. The provider must be configured and active to use the configuration during translation operations.

Glossaries

Optional

If the provider supports glossaries, you can activate them. Lango automatically chooses the appropriate glossary based on the source and target language during translation.

Translate title

Optional

Enable this option to translate both the page title and content.

Confluence requires unique titles within each space. If the translated title matches an existing page, the translation will fail.

Copy labels

Optional

Enable this option to copy labels from the original to the translated page. This ensures that the labels used to categorize and tag the content are retained in the translation.

Copy page permissions

Optional

If selected, all translations will inherit the same permission scheme as the original content. For example, translations of restricted content will be limited to the same users/groups as the original content.

Formality

Optional - DeepL Only

Configure the tone of voice among the available options, for example, formal or informal.

Model

Optional - LLMS Only

Configure the AI model to use for translation. Each LLMS provider offers different models with varying levels of output quality and cost.

What is the default configuration?

You can create as many configurations as you want, but you must set at least one as the default. Lango automatically uses the default configuration for all operations where no human intervention is required. For example, in automations, during message synchronization, and in page language detection.

How to use global configurations

If at least one global configuration is active, Lango will default to it in the translation panel and in the quick start modal. This reduces the user's available options, as most settings are predefined in the configuration.

For special requirements, users can select the "Custom" option from the configurations menu to set custom parameters for each setting.
