Lango V3 Release Notes

We're excited to announce the Lango 3.0 release, a major milestone that marks a significant step forward in Lango's future! This release represents a complete rewrite of the application, focusing on enhanced security, improved performance, and a revamped user experience.

What's new?

Smart Switcher

We renovated our language switcher to be more modern, elegant, and smart! The new Smart Switcher adapts its behaviour based on the user, page state, and translations.

For Editors

If you're a page editor, the switcher provides a quick overview of the translation status without opening the language management panel. Outdated translations are identified with a warning status, and translation statuses are updated in real-time.

Buttons and options dynamically update based on the most appropriate action according to the translation status. For example, suppose you've deleted the original content and are left with an orphaned translation. In that case, the Smart Switcher displays a warning and offers the option to unlink the page for reuse as a translation for another page or as original content for new translations.

For Visitors

If you're a visitor, the Smart Switcher shows you the available translations and alerts you if a translation is outdated, providing you with a quick link to the most updated version of the original content.

Quick Add NEW

The new Quick Add feature lets you add translations quickly without accessing the full language management panel. Use the Quick Add function to display a simplified popup where you can easily configure your translations. This streamlined process saves time and enhances your workflow.

Switcher Macro

The Switcher Macro has been updated with a more modern design. It now includes a dedicated button to access the translation panel, allowing you to translate pages where the switcher isn't present, such as the homepage of spaces. For detailed instructions, please refer to the documentation.

Language Management Panel

While maintaining a similar look, the Language Tools panel has been completely rewritten from scratch, enabling us to add exciting new features in future releases.

You can now change the page's primary language without returning to the switcher.

The panel can also preemptively identify conditions that might cause translation failures, displaying hints or warnings to prevent unnecessary consumption of translation credits. This proactive approach helps you manage resources more efficiently.

Additionally, we've fixed numerous minor issues reported over the past few months.

Global Translation Configurations

After extensive testing, we are delighted to announce that Global Translation Configurations are now generally available.

With Global Configurations, administrators can create translation presets, significantly saving time by streamlining the setup process for multiple projects. These presets ensure consistency and efficiency across various translation tasks.

Additionally, it will be possible to set a default configuration for all translation operations, such as new translations, synchronization of outdated content, and automation.

In the coming months, we will continue adding more options to the configurations, reducing the time and effort needed to manage translations.

New translation engine

The translation engine has been completely rewritten to provide more flexibility in translations. This overhaul allows for improved performance and better handling of complex translation scenarios. We'll share more details about the new engine in upcoming releases.

Additionally, we've fixed several issues, including the translation of expandable sections and other minor bugs.

Old releases deprecation

Lango 3.0 is based on the new Confluence V2 APIs. Since Atlassian deprecated the old APIs, all older versions of Lango are now considered also deprecated and will be removed in the coming months. We recommend all users upgrade to the latest version to continue receiving support and updates.

A big thank you to our beta testers!

We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our beta testers who provided valuable feedback and helped us identify issues and areas for improvement. Your insights have been instrumental in shaping this release, and we couldn't have done it without you!

What's next?

We have exciting plans for the future of Lango, with many new features and enhancements in the pipeline. Stay tuned for more updates!

Thank you for your continued support, and happy translating with Lango 3.0!
